Puff puff is a street snack that is common in West Africa. It is similar to the French baignet, and known as bofrot in Ghana. This African snack is made of deep fried dough, which is mostly served as appetizers and desserts. This spongy, fluffy and soft puff puff is easy to make,it is similar to donuts, but a little bit more chewy. Follow my recipe to get the best puff puff.

Tips

1.proof the yeast with warm water for 5-10 minutes (at the end of the 10 minutes, the yeast yeast should be foaming on top)

2.do not over crowd the pan when frying, so the puff puff does not become soggy.

ingredients

3 cups flour

1 1/4teaspoon yeast

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

2 cups warm water

Vegetable oil for frying u

Pour the yeast into the warm water and set aside for 5-10 minutes to proof. Mix the flour, sugar, salt and nutmeg . Once the yeast is done proofing, pour the flour mixture into the yeast mixture, mix properly until smooth and runny.( it should be a little bit thicker than pancake batter. Cover and set aside to rise in a warm place for 50-60 minutes.

At the end of the resting time, the dough should have doubled it’s size.

Heat up oil in a pan,(the oil should be enough to deep fry) use hand or ice cream scooper to scoop the dough into the oil and fry on a medium heat until golden brown.

serve and enjoy.

bon appetit.
